Poor sleep night after night can start to feel like Groundhog Day.

Enduring the harmful effects of bad sleep can make it feel like you are suffering through an endless winter of misery.

Luckily, it doesn’t have to be this way, and you can solve it without resorting to harmful sleep medicines or alcohol (research shows that only makes it worse).

Establish a ritual that works for you and stick with it. Your formula will be different than the next person and that’s totally ok. Sleep is personal.

Sleep drive will take over if you let the science of your 24-hour circadian rhythm occur naturally.

Here are six questions to ask yourself if you’re struggling with falling asleep and staying asleep:

1. Is your bedtime inconsistent?

2. Are you watching screens within 2 hours before bedtime?

3. Are you eating meals late in the evening?

4. Do you regularly drink a nightcap or evening alcoholic drinks?

5. Do you wake up hot?

6. Is your room illuminated with artificial light?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you may be able to trace your sleep difficulties to one (or more) areas that are negatively impacting your sleep. Try making changes in those specific areas and see your sleep quality improve.
